Maternity Services Review

I was mightily pleased to learn last week of the recommendation to the federal government in the recently-published Maternity Services Review, that midwives with advanced professional standing, be accorded the status of independent practitioners with access to Medicare and the PBS.
This, surely, will give low-risk pregnant women more choice regarding birth options and will do much to lower the all-time high caesarian rate among privately-insured women in this country.

There is much in “the Literature” regarding the real benefits of a normal drug-free physiologic birth. However as homœopaths, we appreciate that such a birth followed by enough time to explore the maternal abdomen and search for (and reach) the nipple without interference, affords the little one his first lesson in Life and primes Psora in a positive manner.
To be born knowing that ”If I struggle, I will survive” is an excellent starting point and with an innate sense of curiosity and ebullience it will mean that the highways and byways of the planet Earth experience will be negotiated with less difficulty.
